During the General Assembly the following resolutions were
approved:

AG/RES.
1778 (XXXI-O/01) Annual Report of the Inter-American
Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD)
This Resolution asks CICAD to update the Anti-Drug
Strategy in the Hemisphere, support the strengthening of
the Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism (MEM) and continue
to develop cooperation projects towards the prevention and
reduction of illicit crops. It also recommends that Member
States work to expand and improve their infrastructure for
the delivery of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation
services and to continue elaborating different programs
established to help eradicate the drug problem on the
continent.

1779 (XXXI-O/01 Evaluation of Progress in Drug
Control: First Round of the Multilateral Evaluation
Mechanism (MEM) of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control
Commission
This Resolution recognizes the importance of the
Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism (MEM) as an instrument
to measure objectively Member States' efforts in combating
the drug problem and strengthening international
cooperation in this area. At the same time, it encourages
Member States and CICAD to lend political and financial
support to the MEM.

1781 (XXXI-O/01) Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of
Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas
This Resolution convenes the Fourth Meeting of Ministers
of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the
Americas, which will be celebrated in Trinidad and Tobago,
in 2001. It also asks the OAS Permanent Council to
elaborate the agenda, prepare the preliminary documents
and set a date for the meeting, as well as to continue
following up on the application of the conclusions and
recommendations approved at the Third Meeting of Ministers
of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the
Americas.

1816 (XXXI-O/01) Study of the Rights and the Care of
Persons Under Any Form of Detention or Imprisonment
This Resolution charges the Permanent Council to consider
the advisability of studying, in collaboration with the
relevant organs and entities of the Inter-American system
and taking into account the conclusions and
recommendations from the Meeting of Ministers of Justice
or Attorneys General of the Americas, issues related to
the rights and caring of persons under any form of
detention or imprisonment.

1835 (XXXI-O/01) Inter-American program of cooperation
to prevent and remedy cases of international abduction of
minors by one of their parents
This Resolution urges Member States to sign and ratify the
Hague Convention on Civil Aspects of International Child
Abduction, the Inter-American Convention on the
International Return of Children and the Hague Convention
on Protection of Children and Co-operation in respect of
Inter-country Adoption. All States Parties are urged, as
well, to fulfill the obligations included in this last
Convention in order to prevent and remedy cases of
international parental child abduction. The Resolution
also asks the Permanent Council to, with the support and
under the auspices of the Inter-American Children's
Institute (IACI), convene a meeting of governmental
experts to address the issue of international parental
child abduction.
