...that Canada is engaged in a range of energy and climate-related partnerships in the hemisphere? The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) supports the Nicaraguan Electrification Project (PELNICA) which aims to provide electricity for approximately 100,000 individuals in over 650 communities. CIDA is also assisting the Government of Haiti with expertise to enable Haiti’s national public electrical utility, Électricité d'Haiti (EDH), recover the cost of supplying electricity. Canada, in partnership with the OAS, also facilitated the development of a National Energy Policy in Belize that will contribute to securing a sustainable energy supply.
Paragraph 46, Fifth Summit of the Americas:“…We will continue to promote efficient and transparent energy resource management for achieving sustainable development in all our countries, taking into consideration national circumstances. We support the exchange of experiences and best practices and will seek to cooperate, where appropriate, in the implementation of energy efforts in the Hemisphere”.
