Policy Dialogues:

Private sector in the context of the pandemic: The pending challenge of social inclusion in the Americas

On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, the Summits of the Americas Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) held the streaming event on Policy Dialogue: “Private sector in the context of the pandemic: The pending challenge for social inclusion in the Americas ”.

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected Latin America, a region characterized by weak social protection structures, fragmented health systems, high degrees of labor informality and deep inequalities that have been exacerbated in a complex economic, social and political scenario which experienced a significant number of political crises and social protests in 2019.

In the framework of the preparation of the Ninth Summit of the Americas, the Summits of the Americas Secretariat, in coordination with REDESCA, join forces to generate a dialogue that allows analyzing the role of the business sector as a determining factor in the recovery of social and economic impact caused by COVID-19. This dialogue seeks to collect the work of international organizations on the subject and based on the analysis, offer recommendations that allow to nurture the debate on social inclusion in the postpandemic.

Likewise, this event builds on the efforts of the Business Dialogue for the Americas (ABD), facilitated by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), to conduct high-level exchanges with the governments of the region in the formulation and implementation of public policies.
