Dialogue to Advance Just and Inclusive Energy Policies in the Americas

On March 14, 2024, the Summit of the Americas Secretariat held the "Dialogue to Advance Just and Inclusive Energy Policies in the Americas" on the occasion of the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), along with the Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) as the technical secretariat of the ECPA, with the collaboration of the Special Rapporteurship on Economic, Social, Cultural, and Environmental Rights (REDESCA) of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH) of the Organization of American States (OAS).

In preparation for the Tenth Summit of the Americas, the event aimed to generate direct dialogue and debate among relevant actors, representatives of stakeholders in the Summits Process, including government officials from the energy sector, JSWG institutions, representatives of civil society, and the private sector, on best practices and experiences to develop and advance just and inclusive energy transition policies and strategies, with an emphasis on social, economic, and environmental justice considerations.

Based on the discussions, the Summit of the Americas Secretariat, together with the DSD/OAS and REDESCA, will prepare a report on the key themes and conclusions addressed. The report will be presented for consideration by the Chairmanship of the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG), as well as the Chairmanship of the ECPA, in order to enrich relevant discussions regarding the just energy transition within these fora.
