The Summits of the Americas Secretariat supports the Chair of the Summits of the Americas Process in following up on and facilitating the fulfillment of the mandates and initiatives emanating from the Summits of the Americas. It is also the Technical Secretariat of the process, which constitutes the institutional memory of the Summits of the Americas.
The SIRG oversees the follow-up process of the Summit mandates and reports annually to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs on the progress made in fulfilling the mandates.
The JSWG carries out actions to support the implementation of Summit mandates by the states. The Summits Secretariat coordinates the work of the JSWG.
Civil society organizations and social actors provide inputs and recommendations for the consideration of states during the implementation phase.
The IX Summit of the Americas was held in Los Angeles, United States, from June 8 to 10, 2022. Under the theme "Building a Sustainable, Resilient and Equitable Future," the Heads of State and Government adopted by consensus mandates that are reflected in five Political Commitments: Action Plan on Health and Resilience in the Americas; Our Sustainable and Green Future; Accelerating the Just Transition to Clean, Sustainable and Renewable Energy; Inter-American Action Plan on Democratic Governance; and Regional Program for Digital Transformation.

EN EsDuring the Second SIRG Meeting at the Ministerial Level, held on October 6, 2022 in Lima, Peru, on the occasion of the 52nd OAS General Assembly, the Tentative Calendar and Working Procedures for the follow-up and implementation of the IX Summit of the Americas were approved. This document calls for the creation of five Ad Hoc Technical Groups, one for each of the Political Commitments or Mandates adopted at the IX Summit. These Technical Groups periodically bring together experts from Summit governments to support the progress in the implementation of the mandates and report back to the SIRG.
To provide access to the documents of these meetings, the Summits Secretariat has created a website available to the states.
Progress reports of the Ad Hoc Technical Groups:
The Summits Secretariat is building a Database of Initiatives to follow up on the implementation of the mandates of the Ninth Summit of the Americas. The Database is being created based on the contributions shared by the participating states in the meetings of the Ad Hoc Technical Groups—a methodology developed to facilitate the exchange of good practices and experiences in the implementation of the Ninth Summit mandates. States will be able to continue providing input on their national efforts for the development and consolidation of this Database.
The VIII Summit of the Americas was held in Lima, Peru, on April 13 and 14, 2018. After more than thirteen years, the Heads of State and Government adopted by consensus a Summit document, the Lima Commitment: Democratic Governance Against Corruption, a set of 57 mandates, concrete measures to prevent and combat corruption.
